According to the art. 12 of Legislative Decree, 3 February 2011, n. 71, the Head of the consular office may officiate the marriage between Italian citizens or between an Italian citizen and a non-citizen upon presentation of a request to celebrate a consular marriage which must be signed by both bride and groom and presented in person at the consular office, or sent by post, fax or email ( aire.brisbane@esteri.it ) with a copy of the applicants’ photo ID attached.
The celebration of a consular marriage may be refused when it goes against local laws or when the parties do not reside in the consular district. If the consular office accepts the request (as long as the requirements are in accordance with the law) the bride and groom will have to proceed with the request of the notice of intended marriage.
N.B. In order to check the availability of this Consulate, and to leave enough time to request the notice of intended marriage, please send the request to this Consulate at least 90 days before the desired dates of the ceremony.
