State Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of Queensland State Library, Mrs. Vicky McDonald FALIA, announced that the illustrated book containing the names of the “Cavalieri di Vittorio Veneto” of Queensland, edited by the historian Franco Gobbato and financed by the Prosecco DOC Consortium, has been completely digitised and is freely available online for consultation. The book which was donated to the Queensland State Library on January 31 of this year by Consul Salvatore Napolitano, is dedicated to around 600 Italians and their descendants who served their country in the First World War, settled in the Sunshine State and were awarded by the Italian state, the honour of “Cavalieri di Vittorio Veneto”, established in 1968.
The book was on display together with photos from the Marzocchi collection, which came from the Battle Museum of Vittorio Veneto (TV), during the exhibition “Instant and Places of the Italian Front”, which took place at the Brisbane City Hall on 4th November 2019 on the occasion of Italian National Unity Day and the Armed Forces.
The Consul of Italy in Brisbane, Salvatore Napolitano, underlined the importance of the continuation of cultural cooperation between Italy and Queensland and an important institution like the State Library during this unprecedented difficult time. “In recent days, Italy has been receiving signs of closeness and affection, from the Australian community and institutions, and the Consulate is focusing on continuous assistance to the Italian community based in Queensland and the Northern Territory who have been affected by the COVID-19 emergency” stated the Consul.
The book is available for consultation at the following link http://hdl.handle.net/10462/pdf/16820
