On Wednesday 27 February, the Consul of Italy in Brisbane Salvatore Napolitano attended a community introduction.
The event was organized and promoted by the President of the Comites for Queensland and the Northern Territory, Mariangela Stagnitti, and hosted by the President of the ANFE (“National Association of Emigrant Families”), Maria Maruca.
Consul Napolitano said he was very happy to be in Brisbane, in an active community, very passionate about Italy and excellently integrated into the local context. He thanked the members of the community for their continuous commitment to preserve and strengthen the reputation and image of Italy and underlined the importance of transmitting the values of “Italianità” (“Italianness”) to the new generations of descendants as well as actively involve into the community activities the many young Italians who are settling in the territory.
Italian nationals residing in Queensland and the Northern Territory are 17.659 according to latest data (February 2019), an increasing number in recent years with a trend of further growth in the first two months of the current year which recorded 146 new registrations to the AIRE (official registry of Italians abroad) in the consular district.
