The new legislation governing Italian citizenship, following the amendments to Law No. 91 of 1992 introduced by Law No. 74 of 2025, substantially impacts the previous regulatory framework for acquiring citizenship by descent, after decades of application of the previous law.
Therefore, given the volume and nature of requests for clarification that reach this Consulate of Italy in Brisbane on a daily basis, the Consul, in agreement with the Committee for Italians Abroad in Queensland and the Northern Territory, is pleased to organize a seminar entitled “Guide to Italian Citizenship: Instructions for Use”, to be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 6:30 PM in the spacious and new premises made available by the National Association of Emigrant Families (ANFE) in Brisbane.
During the meeting, the Consul, supported by her staff, will present the main changes introduced by the reform, focusing in particular on the procedures and deadlines for reacquiring citizenship for former citizens and for acquiring citizenship by benefit of law.
Admission is free and all are welcome, subject to registration. Participation can be in person at ANFE (register using the QR code in the in-depth section or the Humanitix link https://events.humanitix.com/a-guide-to-italian-citizenship-instructions-for-use or the email address found in the attached flyer) or virtually via the livestreamed webinar, made available by Com.It.Es., in order to reach all interested parties residing within the large consular jurisdiction of Queensland and the Northern Territory.
