It is managed by Italian municipalities (Comuni), based on information transmitted by the Consular Offices.<\/p>\n<p>Registration with A.I.R.E., besides being a citizen&#8217;s obligation (art. 6, Law 470\/1988; art. 11, Law 1228\/1954), is a prerequisite for accessing the consular services provided by Diplomatic Representations abroad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Must Register<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italian citizens who fall into the following categories must register with A.I.R.E.:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>those who move abroad for a period of more than 12 months and establish their habitual residence abroad;<\/li>\n<li>those who already reside abroad and are not yet registered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The application must be submitted <strong>within 90 days of transferring residence abroad<\/strong>. Registration is free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>If you reside<strong> in Queensland or in the Northern Territory<\/strong>, your consular district of reference is that of the <strong>Consulate of Italy in Brisbane<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Register<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Besides being a citizen&#8217;s obligation, registration with A.I.R.E. is a prerequisite for accessing the consular services provided by Representations abroad, as well as for exercising important electoral, health, social, fiscal, civil, and personal rights, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>voting from abroad, in the cases provided for by law;<\/li>\n<li>issuance of a passport;<\/li>\n<li>registration of civil status records;<\/li>\n<li>notarial services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Submit the Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The registration request is submitted online<strong> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/serviziconsolari.esteri.it\/home\">Fast-It<\/a> portal<\/strong>, indicating all Italian members of the cohabiting family unit and attaching the required documentation.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate the procedure, the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane <a href=\"https:\/\/consbrisbane.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AIRE-Registration-.pdf\">provides a dedicated guide for registration<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/consbrisbane.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/FAST-It-Change-of-address.pdf\"> a guide for updating one&#8217;s A.I.R.E. status.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is essential to enter personal details and residential address completely and accurately, exactly as they appear on official documents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: simply submitting the application or registering on Fast-It does not equate to registration with A.I.R.E. <strong>The file must be verified and completed by the Consulate and subsequently transmitted to the competent Italian municipality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Consulate transmits the request to the Italian municipality of last residence <strong>within 180 days<\/strong>. Registration with A.I.R.E. takes effect from the date the complete application was submitted.<\/p>\n<p>In case of incomplete documentation, the Consulate will request the necessary additions via Fast-It. The documentation must be submitted within the deadline indicated in the request.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Documents<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a valid identity document;<\/li>\n<li>a document proving residence within the consular district;<\/li>\n<li>the summary form generated by the Fast-It portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Failure to Register and Penalties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Failure to submit the request within the deadline established by law may result in <strong>administrative penalties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment and application of penalties fall under the competence of the Italian municipality where the citizen is registered, not the Consulate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Change of Address<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Citizens registered with A.I.R.E. must promptly report any change in their residential address.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>change of address<\/strong> within the Brisbane consular district must be reported via Fast-It, for the citizen and any cohabiting family members.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of a <strong>move to another consular district<\/strong>, the change must be reported to the Consulate responsible for the new residence, also via Fast-It.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Failure to update one&#8217;s address<\/strong> may cause difficulties in official communications and, in the cases provided for, removal from A.I.R.E. due to unreachability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Registry of Italians Residing Abroad (A.I.R.E.) is the register of Italian citizens who permanently reside abroad.
