Civil Status<\/strong>\u00a0concerns the set of facts or expressions of will relating to the life of a citizen: birth, marriage, civil union, death, divorce, and change of name. The registration of these facts falls within the competence of the Civil Status Officer, whose functions are carried out in Italy by the Municipalities (Comuni), and abroad by Embassies and Consulates.<\/p>\n

Italian law (Presidential Decree No. 396\/2000) requires Italian citizens \u2014 including those who are only temporarily abroad \u2014 to declare all civil status changes and events that occur in a foreign country during their stay abroad.<\/p>\n

Certificates and documents relating to such changes must be submitted to the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

If you reside in Queensland or the Northern Territory and wish to update your civil status, first make sure you are registered with\u00a0A.I.R.E.<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Documents may be sent by post to the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane or delivered in person. It is therefore not necessary to book an appointment.<\/p>\n

Submitted documents will not be returned. Original certificates\/documents will be retained by the Consulate.<\/p>\n

The Consulate does not issue birth, marriage, divorce, or death certificates, as these fall exclusively within the competence of the Municipality (Comune) in Italy.<\/p>\n
