GIRO D’ITALIA THROUGH QUEENSLAND

Italy and Queensland, Australia, are closely connected by a cultural affinity and by strong ties that developed along the long-lasting history of intense relations between our communities.

The large Italian community of Queensland holds a great attachment to Italian traditions, recipes, linguistic and cultural expressions, while being perfectly integrated and committed to making Queensland the extraordinary place that we know it to be.

With the Giro d’Italia through Queensland, we invite everybody to embark on a Tour of Italy through the places and territories of origin of Italian immigrants who settled in the Sunshine State, through their stories as well as those that link Queensland personalities to Italy.

Like the world renowned cycling competition “Giro d’Italia”, the project will be structured in several stages that offer a set of sentimental, gastronomic and historical itineraries geared to allowing people to discover cultural, social and food and wine traditions of the Italian Regions that have a significant history with regards to migrants in Queensland and Australia.

It is of interest to Italian citizens and their descendants, to be able to discover the places they come from, as well as for the Queenslanders who attest their indefinite love and passion for Italy and its territories on a daily basis.

Each stage will focus on the links of the Italian territories to iconic Queensland attractions, and will follow a special journey characterized by sentiment and identity that aims to be extremely fruitful from a cultural, business and bidirectional tourism point of view.

Giro d’Italia through Queensland, an idea of Consul Salvatore Napolitano, is being organized by the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane together with Com.It.Es. Queensland and Northern Territory and the associations of the Italian community in Queensland. The project has been recognized as best practice by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy.
